Easter Decorating

Wow! The last couple of weeks have been an adjustment, being back in part-time employment hasn’t been easy. Projects around the home have been taking alot longer than normal now that I have less time to devote to them. But I think that I have been enjoying them more, projects around the home are away of winding down after a day at work.

Next weekend is Easter. I am going away with my sister & a friend to a music festival, my sister just posted on Facebook that she has already finished packing. Can’t believe it a week out and she has finished pack whereas I haven’t even begun to think about what to pack!

Ok, back to the title subject. I like decorating the top shelf of our TV unit, it is the closest thing I have to a mantle. The last couple of days I have been putting my Easter ‘mantel’ together. It doesn’t feel done yet, but I am very happy with it so far.

I went with a couple of printables & stuff that I  already had. There is an empty space between the two frames, but I just don’t know what to put there. The bunny banner is a free printable I got from Sweetest Occasion. I used it last year & still like it so I used it again.

The egg cups & two egg cosies are new to the mantle this year. My sister-in-law made myself and WH egg cosies as Easter gifts last year. Mine was the apple on & WH got a Dalek (Doctor Who Monster, click here to find out more. Unless your a Dr Who geek & recognised the Dalek egg cosy without me having to say anything). I got the egg cup with the owls on it for my birthday this year & the other two we have just always had hanging around the house. The egg cups without cosies need  something, maybe some decorated eggs.

Found this printable via pinterest (surprise I know!) on One Dog Woof, love the colours. The little bunny tag came with our Easter gift from my sister-in-law, would love to find a small frame to put it in.

For the other frame I found inspiration via pinterest.

Easter party invitations Minted

I made my own version using Photoshop, an egg shape (that I used as a clipping mask) & some digital scrapbooking papers.

Easter art

I used blue, green & neutrals. I took colour inspiration from the bible quote printable I downloaded from One Dog Woof.

Another tag from my sister-in-law’s Easter gifts last year. The little hat thing sitting on top of the frame is a Jewish hat thing. I have no idea what it is called, I just know that it is a traditional thing that is worn by Jewish men. My sister-in-law went to Israel a couple of years ago & she brought it back for WH.

As a final touch of Easter decorating I added an artwork I made last year to one of the frames in the gallery wall.

Do you decorate for Easter? What are your plans for the holiday weekend? Anyone else going to a music festival?

Another couple of weeks has just flown by! And again I have been quite slack with the posting.

Last week I lost my job, I worked myself out of it actually. I was hired as a temporary thing to do refiling & office organisation. It was only suppose to be for a couple of weeks but it last a year & a bit. But I knew that the work was coming to an end, I went from working once a week to once a fortnight to once every 3 weeks then nothing. I was sad, but kinda relieved too. I never felt like I really knew what I was doing, didn’t feel useful.

So the same day, which was Wednesday, I decided that I needed to start the job hunt straight away. I always believed that if you are unemployed then your job is finding a job, so I went to a couple of job searching sites that I still had active memberships to to see what was out there. I came across a job in housekeeping (a supervisors position) at a resort that was close to my home. My first ever job was cleaning at a holiday camp, I had the job for 5 years and always new in the back of my mind that it was something I could fall back on. So I applied & didn’t think any more about it. Thursday morning I was dusting & got a phone call from the resort that I had applied to for the housekeeping position. They wanted me to come in for an interview that afternoon, so after running around like a headless chicken preparing I headed out for the interview feeling really unprepared.

The interview was relaxed & I didn’t feel nervous at all (first time ever!). At the end of the interview I was offered a trial for the position. Wow.

I did the trial on Saturday & it was hard work but I didn’t feel that it was more than I could handle and I seemed to get on well with the lady I was working with.

Tuesday morning I went out for a ride on my bike, when I cam home WH (wonderful husband) said that I had gotten a call from the resort & I needed to call them back. I did to find out that I had gotten a 2nd interview & could I come in at lunch time. Wow again. Though this isn’t the first time I had gotten a second interview so I didn’t get too excited.

But it turns out that it really was a scend interview, I was offered a job. Not the supervisors position (they had found someone with more experience than me in that role), but there was also an opening in housekeeping. I accepted and started on Friday.

I had my third day of work today and things are going really well. I like the people I am working with & the work is pretty good. The last couple of weeks have been a hurried blur. I didn’t have a chance to feel sad about losing a job before I got a new one, which is good. This new job in part-time (I was working casually before), which means more hours, holiday & sick pay.

As for what things means for this blog, I don’t know. I have no intention of stopping blogging, but I will have to see how the blog fits into my new schedule. I really enjoyed being at home more over the last couple of years, I have been able to clean, organise, decorate & learn to love my home. I’m really happy & excited to be starting this new chapter in my life.

New Zealand Album cont….

Album part 1

Album Part 2

One good thing that came out  of the force absence from the internet is that I had loads of time to finish pages in our New Zealand holiday album. These pages aren’t in there correct order, but I promise to show you the completed album (when it’s actually completed that is) but this is just how I have been creating theses pages. I have used the same materials that I did for the other pages.

This page I scraplifted from my cousin Talia, she used this  layout in one of her travel pages from a recent trip her and he husband took to Europe. I like this page alot, it came together really easily.

The tag slides out, I designed the tree & snowflake image on the front of the tag in photoshop.

A simple stamp gave me a place to write the date & the rest of the journaling filled the left over space.

This is quite a simple layout, but considering the pictures are of such a beautiful & breathtaking area I really wanted those pictures to take centre stage.

I also decided to hide my journal behind one of the pictures, I used a boarder stamp to outline the area for journaling.

Very  different to all the other pages that I have done, I had so many pictures that I wanted to show on this page. Also wanted to do a bit of a before & after affect, so this is the before.

And one after, with a spot for the date to go.

The second after with the journaling. Doing this page this way allowed me to get two extra larger pictures onto the layout (you can also notice I need to paint the back of the chipboard letters, forgot they would be seen from behind until I was taking these pictures).

This layout I sort of such stuck things on as I decided I liked them, no plan at all except for the photo locations which I took from a sketch that I had lying around. This is also the only double page layout in the whole album.

I am almost done, I have (I think) one more page to go.

I’m back! Miss me?

Finally! If you only knew! It has been a long 4 weeks (I think that’s about right anyway). 4 weeks ago we came back from a weekend trip to the city (to see another musical) & found that we had no internet. WH rang our ISP provider & that is when the whole long saga began. We were told that things would be fixed in a week, then it was another week & another week. We were without the internet for 3 weeks! And it has taken me another week to be able to get myself organised to be able to post again.

Alot can happen in 4 weeks, and alot has but certainly not as much as the last few days. On Wednesday I received notice that the job I had no longer needed me anymore, might in the future but not now. This wasn’t unexpected. Originally this job was only a temporary position for a couple of days/weeks to help sort files & it ended up being a year and a few months long. I have known for a couple of months that the amount of work was drying up, I went from working once a week to once a fortnight to once every three weeks. But it was still sad, I really enjoyed working where I was working. So I was back on the job hunt again, at the beginning of the week I had received an email from a job search site (that I subscribe to) with a job that I thought that I could do, so I sent in my application on Wednesday. Thursday morning I’m dusting the house when I receive a phone call from the place where I had sent my application the day before & they wanted me in for an  interview that afternoon.

After running around like a headless chicken for a couple of hours I went off to the interview, not feeling too prepared but determined to give things my best shot. Turns out I impressed in the interview (never had anyone tell me that before!) & was offered a trial of the job Saturday morning.

After my trial on Saturday the person I trailed with said that she was happy with my work & would be happy to have me work there.

So now I’m just waiting for the people who have to make the decision whether I get the job to make their decision, which should be Monday sometime with an immediate start next week.

My head has been in a bit of a spin since Thursday when I got the call about getting an interview. Things have never moved this fast for me, ever.

Other things that happened during my force absence from the internet is that our nephew contracted phenomena, which forced us to make a dash home from another weekend trip we took to see WH’s grandparents. WH was also on holidays at the time incase your wondering if we normally take some many weekend trips, we don’t. And we were also blessed with WH getting a raise. This was such a blessing from God especially when I lost my job a week later.

I have soooooo much to show you that I have been keeping myself busy with during my force break from the internet. I’m preparing a couple of post now & will have them up shortly.
